Sometimes people ask me where I got the name “Songdrops”.
When I was starting to record kid songs, in the fall of 2008, and had no idea what I would call my website or CD, I was walking through a park on a beautiful sunny day. As I was walking, a simple little song came to me about how the sun shine makes people smile and helps things grow. I called it Sun Drops.
Sun drops are splashing down
Flowers bloom as they kiss the ground
It’s such a lovely day
Sun drops are everywhere
On your smile and on your hair
I love when you laugh that way
Sun drops ~ Sun drops ~ Sundrops
It’s such a lovely day
The day after I wrote it I was taking my guitar out of my car and a retired neighbor from down the street, who I had never met or spoken with before, was walking by. She said with a smile “You should sing for my flowers, it will help them grow”.
As I was walking inside, it hit me how music and songs, and other sounds like kids laughing and birds singing, all can be like sunshine, helping people smile, helping the world be a lighter, lovelier place. I immediately took out my guitar and started singing the song Sun Drops I had written the day before, but changed it to Song Drops. As I was singing it I knew in moments that this would be a song on the CD, it would be the name of the CD, and it would also be the name of my website and my music.
Song drops are splashing down
Flowers bloom as they kiss the ground
It’s such a lovely day
Song drops are everywhere
On your smile I can hear one there
I love when you laugh that way
Song drops ~ Song drops ~ Song drops
It’s such a lovely day
